Syaoran in Cardcaptor Sakura

Syaoran Li

Syaoran Li is a fictional character in Clamp's manga and anime series Cardcaptor Sakura.

Syaoran is also the protagonist in Clamp's crossover manga series Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and its subsequent anime, Tsubasa Chronicle. His characterization here is mostly independent of his characterization in Cardcaptor Sakura and is discussed further below.

In Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Syaoran is an archaeologist who is excavating ruins in the country of Clow and the adopted son of Fujitaka. In the anime, he is voiced by Miyu Irino in Japanese, and in English by Jason Liebrecht.

He and the princess of Clow (Princess Sakura) are very close childhood friends. One day, Sakura displays mystical powers, but in the process she loses her memories, which are scattered through different worlds in the form of feathers. The lost memories put her life at risk, forcing Syaoran to go on a journey across the many dimensions in order to find them and save her, the person who is most special to him. In order to travel from dimension to dimension, he must sacrifice his most valuable possession: his current relationship with Sakura. Even if Sakura were to get all her feathers back, she would never remember how she felt about Syaoran before. Syaoran himself was found without any memories and named by his adoptive father. Sakura gave him his birthday, April 1st, which is hers as well.

A smart and quiet bookworm (an honor student), on whom Katie and Azumi have crushes and is Rima's partner. Although he is silent, cool, calm and reading most of the time, he's willing to help his friends, even if it embarrasses him. It is a bit mysterious who he liked first, Katie or Azumi, since he went out with Katie in the first season of the anime. He is also afraid to eat green peppers. In the near end of season four, when Haruka Moroshita, his childhood friend proposes her strong love for him, he begins to gradually get close to her. When Haruka makes her decision to set Dylan free because she knew that Katie is the one he really loves, she tells Dylan that he should do something or else he will lose the person he wants. After his small argument with Rima, he went home and he looks like his thinking of something very deep. He then decided to call Katie and told her to meet him at the park and asks her if she can bring a watch. At the park he tells Katie about how he feels and finally confesses to her. Gladly, Katie, of course, accepts his proposal. (First appearance: episode 001)

Natsume is a genius and ditches class frequently throughout the story. He is thoroughly unhappy with the school, and is suspicious of the intentions of adults. It seems that he is involved in top-secret missions for the academy. He is paired up as Mikan's "partner" by the their mostly-absent class teacher, Narumi. However, Natsume is later forced to partner with Luna. He possesses the Alice of Fire, and is classified into the Dangerous Ability type.

Generally, moody and silent, but seems to have softened only to Mikan, as well as his childhood friend, Ruka. He also has feelings for her, and this is evident when he throws an apple at Mikan's head on the stage (blackboard eraser in the manga), when she was about to kiss Ruka for the play. This is Natsume's first real sign that he likes Mikan.

Later on, in episode 20 of the anime, during the "Last Dance", Natsume notices that his friend Ruka likes Mikan, so being the good friend that he is, he pushed Ruka towards Mikan and left the two behind. During the Christmas party, in the manga only, he kisses Mikan on top of the tree and also hugs her on the bed when they had to sleep together because their hands were stuck. He often willingly hears Mikan's problems, but his replies can be insensitive or rude.

Throughout the story, he constantly suffers from conscience pangs, and seems to be in a dilemma, concerning the danger he puts people close to him in. Persona seems to threaten to harm his friends, and his sister (but later on, she left the Academy together with her father), who is kept captive by the man, if he neglects his duty of using his Alice for the Academy's business/political purposes.

According to Ruka, before Mikan entered the Academy, Natsume never smiled before, but after her arrival, Natsume became more open to everyone and started to smile more. Since Natsume likes Mikan, he becomes jealous when he thinks Tsubasa is flirting with her and gave him a glare when he first saw him. He also gives glares when Tsubasa acts close to Mikan. He considers her as one of the most precious people to him, often urging her not to get too close to his 'darkness'. He is also a little perverted, which was proven in episode 16 of the anime where in he pulled out Mikan's bra, and stated that, "I thought there should be mountains in here, but all I see are flatlands."

Another encounter was in the manga, where he, Mikan, and Ruka had grown into their 15-year-old bodies with the Gulliver's Candy. He held Mikan's breasts, and said that it had not grown, much to Mikan's chagrin.

Later on, a girl named Luna comes along and when she wanted to sit next to Natsume, Mikan slowly moves away for Luna, but Natsume holds on to Mikan's right arm and says, "What are you doing? I'm the one that gets to decide who sits besides me. So Mikan, stay here." However, Luna acts sick and Natsume had no choice but to let Luna sit beside him. Later when class started, Natsume notices that Luna is dangerous to Mikan, and so he protects her by doing what Luna says, but Mikan gets jealous because Natsume is always with her.

In chapter 84, Natsume, wearing someone else's Alice mask, is an accidental participant in an item-borrowing race. Participants get a slip with a human ('annoying colleague or 'great midget'), or an object, must run to the finish line with that person/object, at which point what they were searching for will be displayed in fireworks. Natsume, still masked, pulls Mikan away and runs with her. As the fireworks display 'Someone I liked', he runs, returning the mask, and disappearing into the forest. While only seen from behind, both Mikan and Ruka think he is Natsume. It has been made clear by the announcer that this was a confession of love.

His past remains veiled. Although, during the anime, there are hints that his family perished in a fire that burned down the village, which may have been due to Natsume's fire Alice. In the manga, through Ruka's narration, however, his sister, Aoi, who had the same fire Alice, caused the fire that burned the entire village but he took the rap for her. In the manga, his father was injured in this incident, but not seriously. After the incident that happened in the Hana Princess Arc, Natsume managed to save his younger sister, but came out with a badly injured Mikan. With the help of his friends, Aoi was sent back to their father.

Now with nothing tying him to the Academy, others think that he will leave, but he surprises them saying that he will stay. He stated that the main reason is that from now on, he will protect Mikan, who is targeted by the school even more than before.

Due to frequent use of his Alice, Natsume suffers from a physical illness -- his Alice is of the Unlimited form, which drains his life span every time he uses it.

He belongs to the Dangerous Ability type. Currently a Special Star.

*i was just wondering why do senators speak some british stuff... they used those words to express politeness while at the session hall.

here are some examples:

there was a neophyte senator who asked the media what 'livid' means. 'livid' is a british term for being so mad, or, getting someone else's on their nerves.

another one...

this time, i'll say it manga or anime style:

a female senator commented another neophyte senator (*treating him like natsume my love!!!) about his, you know, 'bottom'.

that's a kinda long story, it goes like this...

after his speech the latter asked the lady senator if they won't be facing each other during the debate (pressuming that his rostrum is at the front side of the session hall and hers' at the back) the lady senator just said "it's ok, i prefer to see your beautiful bottom." all the senators filled the hall with laughter!

the word 'bottom' is also british, meaning ass (yes, the one tazusa sakurano was asking dominique miller to kiss in the show ginban kaleidoscope, episode 1) they used the word so that they will look polite and won't look... you know*

*so it looks like a version of pete pumps possesing tazusa sakurano... in the senate!!!:)

last week we didn't have classes because of the typhoon. this week we had it again.
